Dutch Apples from Applique 'n Patch Quilting

What started as a garbage can save ended up in this lovely wall hanging.  The lady that started them (hi Cathy) threw them out and a visiting friend saw them and grabbed them with intentions of doing something with them (hi Karin).  Karin brought the apple cores to the garage and told us the story of the rescue.  Another day in the garage and Karin gifted them to me as she didn't want to work with the apple cores but she knew that I could do something with them.  Then Cathy found more apple cores and mailed them to ...

Design Wall Monday - July 26, 2021 from Small Quilts and Doll Quilts

Well, another Monday is here……and I played all week.  Had a great family party yesterday and loved seeing some of our Hansen relatives again.  Between party prep, overnight company, and actual party, I did very little quilting.  I did finish this doll quilt top:It’s a doll quilt I’ve been working on along with the larger one I just finished.  The 11 inch square little Apple Core quilt is all red

Design Wall Monday - July 12, 2021 from Small Quilts and Doll Quilts

Good Morning Quilters!  I finished another block for the May Day Basket quilt:It has been a good week for me, in that my medical issue of a few weeks ago (sudden temporarily blindness in one eye) has been checked out thoroughly. I told my hubby that the brain scan results found that there was nothing there!  LOL. Actually, all tests came back with great news and the doctors are not finding

Desgn Wall Monday, June 21, 2021 from Small Quilts and Doll Quilts

Good Morning Quilters! So much is happening that I could write about, and some of it isn't quilty.  But I guess I will get my thoughts down on paper so my head can be clearer. In no particular order, these things have happened:Father's Day was a wonderful day trip to Lansing for a golf outing.  Two Grandpas, one son and wife, and two Grandsons golfed, while I rode around with them in a cart,

Design Wall Monday - June 14, 2021 from Small Quilts and Doll Quilts

Good Morning Quilters!  This week was not very productive for me because I was caring for my sister.  She is doing much better, and I came back home on Wednesday.  So Saturday, I had a dedicated quilting day and got the courage to work on another UFO that has been here for a long time.  I looked back on my blog, and the last time I talked about this quilt was Sept., 2019.  (Here)My friend, Joan

Dutch Apples from Applique 'n Patch Quilting

Well, well, well ...... I'm thrilled ..... another top ..... another UFO written off the list!

Since I'm on a roll with UFO's ..... while tidying up my studio yesterday, my hands touched a bin and well, why not work on you?  That is my next post.

Cherish your day, cherish your life!  Wear a mask, wash your hands, keep your distance, don't gather and when it is your turn for the vaccine ..... get it.

Dusting .... from Applique 'n Patch Quilting

..... as in dusting off an UFO!

It was time to take this project off the shelf and work on it.

My original plan was to make a lap size quilt by adding an applique border to the top and bottom.  In the end, it will be a wall hanging instead.  This is the start of the layout.

Oh yes, I'm loving this a lot!
At the same time, bags and bags of batting are being sorted.  One batting has already been assembled.  A few more to go.

It has been very cold up here lately.  It is February and ...

Sew much .... oops .... squirrel! from Applique 'n Patch Quilting

Sew much is getting done these days, I can't stand it!   No, I lie .... my ufo's are getting dealt with and that makes me very happy.  My sister asked me if I was bored.  I laughed.  Me bored?  Not a chance.  It is just the getting out and shopping that disturbs me but we have to do it smartly and just stay at home.

So, I work away.  In my happy place.

My apple cores are done and inner borders are on.  Just pondering the outside borders.  The top border will have applique.

Then, a squirrel came along ...

Been busy! from Applique 'n Patch Quilting

It seems that everyone that can sew are making masks these days.  I've jumped in and made 36 for our local hospital to wear over their N95 masks to keep them from getting soiled.  The community made enough that they won't have to worry about masks for a wee while.  These ones have ties.

Next up, masks for family members.

After that, masks for a local nursing home and they requested elastics.

I will do whatever I can to help out.  We have to, no question about it!

It is so sad to watch the news and see ...

Apple Cores! from Applique 'n Patch Quilting

This project is speeding along!  Mind you, this will be a wall hanging instead of my usual huge bed quilts.

The centre core measures 43" x 43".  Fabric is being auditioned for borders and there may be a border of applique at the top.

Cherish you day!  Cherish your life!

Batting time! from Applique 'n Patch Quilting

How am I amusing myself during our virus shutdown?

Do you remember seeing this photo in a July 2019 post when my young great niece was visiting and after coming back from using the bathroom and the look on her face said it all?  Well, since then, more batting pieces were added and the shower stall was bulging almost to the top and bags kept falling out of the opening.  Time to deal with them!

For now, just the 80/20 cotton/poly batting pieces are being used.  The 100% poly batting pieces will be dealt with later.

Not all ...

Prepping hand work from Applique 'n Patch Quilting

My life is a tad topsy turvy right now.  After my aunt passed away last month, my elderly cousin needs assistance and a week ago, he ended up in hospital.  It is so hard when we are a five hour drive away from him.

So, whenever he is able to leave the hospital, I will be heading back either to look after him for a few weeks or help pack up his apartment in the event that he is to be moved into a nursing home instead.  Uncertain times ahead for all of us.

Whatever happens, I need to be ...

Design Wall Monday - October 7, 2019 from Small Quilts and Doll Quilts

Good morning quilters!  This week I have been working more on "Doll Delicious", the doll quilt to go with my large quilt named "Red Delicious".  Thanks to Annie of "Annie's Quilt Orts" blog for naming the doll quilt.  I like the name.  I have 68 apple core pieces together and will finish it at 100 pieces soon.  Since it is hand sewn, it is a good "take with" project.   Here is a
